Year 3 Wattle and Daub
Year 3 had a wonderful day immersing themselves in their Wider Curriculum Project based around the Stone Age. They have been thinking about what makes an effective roundhouse and were able to practise using wattle and daub to create their own structure. The wattle is created through a process of weaving and the daub is made by using a mixture of air dry clay, water and hay. People in prehistoric Britain would have used manure rather than clay but we decided we would be better off using a more hygienic material! The children investigated the consistency of the daub mixture in order to devise the ideal ‘recipe’ to use on top of their wattle structures. The structure is located on the field around the side of the school - do come and take a look the next time you are walking past!
